Hypersensitivity syndrome to anticonvulsant drugs secundary to valpropic acid
Abstract
Drug reactions have diverse manifestations which include exanthema, urticaria, photosensitivity, and, in severe cases erythema multiforme and toxic epidermal necrolysis. Infrequent manifestations are: morphea, purpura, alopecia, vitiligo, porphyria, vasculitis and lichenoid reactions. Virtually, any ingested substance can produce a hypersensitivity reaction.
This is a case involving a 21 year old woman who developed an anticonvulsant hypersensitivity syndrome due to valproic acid intake, characterized by fever, erythroderma, lymph nodes enlargement, as well as neurological, hematological and hepatic alterations. Histological features of skin show a lichenoid pattern
