Destructive noninfectious spondyloarthropathy in a hemodialysis patient
Abstract
Destructive spondyloarthropathy is an osteoarticular complication in patients with chronic kidney disease. This condition most commonly affects the cervical and dorsal spine. It can be asymptomatic up to cause severe pain, and lead to complications that can threaten the integrity of the vertebral column and the life. Here, we present the case of a 70-year-old man with chronic end-stage renal disease on hemodialysis who was consulted for dorsal pain and paraplegia. It was diagnosed as noninfectious destructive spondyloarthropathy by imaging and histopathologic examination. The case highlights the importance of making an early diagnosis and following a multidisciplinary approach to the management of the disease.
