An editorial overview of scientific journals in Colombia
Advances, challenges and projections
Abstract
Within the framework of the Symposium of Editors of Colombian Biomedical Journals, held during the XXX ACMI-ACP Congress 2025 in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Acta Médica Colombiana, the main challenges facing scientific health publications in Colombia were addressed. This report synthesizes the consensus and specific concerns from the presentations, which covered topics such as editorial quality, visibility and indexing, peer review, open science, ethics and scientific integrity, social appropriation of knowledge, and the emerging use of artificial intelligence in editorial processes.
Based on this analysis, strategies are proposed aimed at consolidating a robust, equitable, technologically updated editorial ecosystem committed to open access and the social function of science. This roadmap seeks to strengthen the role of biomedical journals as spaces for validation, critical circulation, and appropriation of knowledge, essential for public health, scientific sovereignty, and the development of the country
