Zoledronic acid-induced acute tubulointerstitial nephritis

Abstract

Intravenous bisphosphonates are drugs with nephrotoxic potential. This drugs may be associated with acute tubular necrosis and focal segmental glomerulosclerosis. We present the case of a 79-year-old woman who, after the intravenous application of zoledronic acid for the treatment of osteoporosis, developed acute tubulointerstitial nephritis that caused acute kidney injury requiring renal replacement therapy, with a good response to treatment with glucocorticoids.
