ESTUDIO SOBRE UNIFICACION DE PRESION EN LA PRUEBA DEL TORNIQUETE Y EL TIEMPO DE SANGRIA
Abstract
A simultaneous study of the capillary fragility test (Rumpel-Leede) and the bleeding time (Ivy) at the pressure of 40 mm. Hg. and 80 mm. Hg. was done in 420 persons: 274 young people, 50 with more than 50 years old, 53 diabetics, 35 with renal disease and 8 with thrombocytopenia. At the pressure of 40 mm. Hg. the average bleeding time was 140" with upper normal limit of 252". No appreciable difference with sex and age was found. It was increased in thrombocytopenia. The capillary fragility was not sensible at this blood pressure.
At the pressure of 80 mm. Hg. the bleeding time had an average of 3'14" with an upper normal limit of 5' 19". There was no difference with age and sex. The upper normal limit was increased in renal patients. The capillary fragility test was positive in 27% of normal people; the frequency of positivity was increased in women, in old people, in diabetics and in thrombocytopenia.
In order to do both tests simultaneously it is better, in clinical practice, to do it at the pressure of 80 mm. Hg. with the limitations related to the little specificity of these tests.
