Acute tubulointerstitial nephritis due to severe malaria
Abstract
Malaria is a common tropical disease in America that can cause multiorgan involvement including acute kidney injury mostly related to acute tubular necrosis, however, other less common histologic presentations have been described. We present the case of a male adult from an endemic area who was admitted with severe malaria caused by Plasmodium vivax and renal involvement requiring renal replacement therapy, a renal biopsy revealed acute tubulointerstitial nephritis, which improved with glucocorticoid therapy.
