Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • Style.The manuscript is adjusted to the requirements indicated by the Author guidelines according to the section it will be sent to.
  • Originality. This submission has not been previously published, nor submitted to another journal.
  • Blind review. Names and institutional filiations of the authors are not in the main document and have been placed in a separate file.
  • Conflict of interest. The conflict of interests declaration has been filled out and is ready to send along with the manuscript

Author Guidelines

Acta Médica Colombiana, a journal of the Colombian Association of Internal Medicina, is a periodical, peer-reviewed, scientific journal that published scientific papers in the field of Internal Medicine and general Medicine, after approval by the Editorial Committee and independent peer-review.

Acta Médica Colombiana subscribed the Recommendations for the conduct, reporting, editing, and publication of scholarly work in medical journals (International Committee of Medical Journal Editors: ICMJE), and suggests that authors review the document at Acta Med Colomb 2015; 40:57-76 to prepare manuscripts for submission.

If the paper states opinions regarding the educational and professional exercise of Medicine, it will be published under this section and the format is free, but no narrative reviews or clinical updates will be published here.

Case Reports

Si se trata de una Presentación de Casos el manuscrito debe incluir: Introducción, Presentación del Caso y Discusión y no debe tener más de 2.500 palabras incluyendo las referencias.

  • En la Introducción se debe hacer un resumen breve sobre la importancia del caso que se va a tratar, bien sea desde el punto de vista diagnóstico, terapéutico, epidemiológico, etc.

  • En la Presentación del Caso se debe resumir la Historia Clínica del paciente o los pacientes, con énfasis en los puntos del proceso de diagnóstico o del enfoque terapéutico que se quieran destacar.

  • La Discusión no debe convertirse, de ninguna manera, en una Revisión de Tema sino que debe responder a las siguientes preguntas:

    • ¿Qué podemos aprender de este caso?
    • ¿Cómo se correlacionan los hallazgos de este caso con la mejor evidencia disponible en la literatura en casos de características similares?
    • ¿Cómo explicar las divergencias entre este caso y otras descripciones de casos similares?
    • ¿Qué limitaciones puede haber tenido el estudio diagnóstico o la intervención terapéutica en este caso?
    • ¿Qué puntos quedaron sin resolver?
    • ¿Qué nuevas investigaciones podrían arrojar luz sobre los problemas planteados por este caso?

Images in Internal Medicine

Image(s) should be attached in the specified formats, along with a document in Word or Pages detailing: a title (no more than 40 characters in length), two authors at the most (full names, highest academic degree, institutional filiation, e-mail and phone) and a description of the image (no more than 150 words in length).
